Experimental lettuce crops on the other side of the fence. The guard lets us in to my surprise. Further in there’s a barn, work tables, wood, nails, tools for building. The people “in charge” arrive. I ask the woman if she would explain what they are doing and she says no. That’s all just no. I feel embarrassed for asking. Then she says something about insurance policy being the reason. I feel better, but confused. She is tall, beautiful, wearing orange pants, and pushing a baby carriage, an expensive one. The baby is smiling, is happy.

We exit the barn and are confronted by a large chain link fence and barbed wire. Some of us begin to climb over, then realize the gate is not locked. On the other side are two elephants, taxidermide, a mother and a very small baby, in a display case. Their heads appear to be too small for their bodies.

In the bathroom there are french fries all over the floor around the foot of the toilet. They still look edible. In the next room two little brown women are cleaning up. One woman is scooping left-over yogurt into her pocket. The yogurt still looks fresh.

I am fixing a young girl’s collar, a white collar over a blue button-down sweater. We love each other. But we are not related.

  • I'm out of my depth interpreting, but very interesting. Feels like you're in the room with the mysteries, even if they don't make sense yet. Perhaps the baby is you, present but not ready to understand. And hungry, there's food all over this dream. Wish I could be more help.

    • I like "the room with the mysteries." And yes, I am not yet ready to understand. From your feedback and that of others, I feel met here in the not knowing. Perhaps a good meal is in order in the meantime!

  • Great comments below....

Sounds like something new is growing that your conscious mind should not interfere with. In the Red Book the Cabiri (dwarves) told Jung to stop working on himself for a while so they could do some work in the unconscious. Mythically, the dream reminds me of all those stories about dwarves, elves, etc. who are so busy at work doing things at night out of human view. Seems auspicious.

    • Your post is really useful to me too!   I forget to just let the unconscious be & not work so hard at getting to what's going on.  I looked up the Cabiri reference today  in the Red Book & there is some really interesting dialogue re entanglement & madness.  Might have to read a few more times & do a separate post.   Thank you.

    • What a great idea: stop working on myself for a while! It's delightful to imagine the Cabiri working happily away ~

  • Rich dream that seems to have a lot in it!  Probably would be good to do some free association to some of the things that stand out most for you.

If it were my dream I might wonder if the experimental lettuce crop,  work table, tools might be symbolic of an alchemical (earth) laboratory in the unconscious that you want to be a part of & have more knowledge of.   It’s heavily guarded, a secret garden.  The first guardian surprises you & lets you in.   But when you get too close to what is really going on, there is another gatekeeper (people in charge; beautiful woman with expensive baby carriage symbolizing the collective)  that keeps you from going further by indicating it’s dangerous.

When u are expelled from this garden, u run into barbed wire & a fence, but discover that gate is open.   But inside it are experiments gone wrong – living beings in a display case, heads on too small bodies.   French fries in the bathroom.  Women scooping yogurt in pockets.    Maybe just a tactic to scare you from going further.

Little girl at end seems important:  Sounds like a school girl’s uniform & you are helping her get ready for school.    Maybe this is child part of you that wants to learn even if it’s dangerous going down into the unconscious.

Have no idea if this resonates at all- just some quick thoughts.

    • Cool interpretation, Shana! I resonate with a lot of what you say.

I love the idea of the alchemical earth lab. Yes, I do want to be part of it and have more knowledge of it. And while it may be a secret, perhaps it's mostly just heavily guarded, something that will be revealed more and more as necessity requires, as more and more of the earth approaches dangerous levels of heat, rising waters, lack of water, loss of ecosystem balance.

The fear that comes up is the bizarre behavior of the humans, the disorientation over what once made sense, but no longer does (french fries in the bathroom, yogurt into pockets). And I wanted to say that the "little brown women," in a way may represent myself, as I too see myself as a little brown woman, being half Asian and half northern European, with brown skin, brown eyes and hair.

  • The feeling that seems to repeat is thinking you won't be welcomed and you are and thinking you can ask after you are welcomed and pushed back. My feeling of the back and forth, slippery content is that of the trickster (Hermes, coyote). Things are never as the seem. Even as far as edible french fries on the bathroom floor around the toilet. First yum, then yuck. The brown women scooping up white yogurt that looks edible, right after the fries are clearly contaminated.

Fascinating dream. Curious about the heads too small for the bodies.
    • Thank you, Angela, for your suggestion to research Hermes. I am attempting to construct my dream around the myth. So here goes:

From Wikipidea I read that the word hermes originated from the word for a heap of stones, a boundary marker. In my dream there seems to be quite a bit of boundary crossing, first outside the garden, and then in, into the barn, outside the fence and then in through the gate, the elephants stuck inside the cage, inside the bathroom, inside the kitchen.

As a personal interpretation for me, as I go back to school and begin to learn again about how the world works from different perspectives, I do feel inside and outside the content, my classmates, my teachers, institutions in general.

And not just with school, but with life in general, I have always had a sense of being on the outside, without control, a mere observer, but now I am learning how to ask to get in, or seeking a way in (through the gate) and discovering my ability to enter, to engage, to be a part of.

Also from Wikipedia, I see that hermes is a derivative of hermeneus, or “interpreter,” reflecting Herme’s function as divine messenger. What is wanting to come through, what messages are up? And as you say, Angela, “things are never as they seem."

Again, with this new beginning back in school, the character Hermes might be representing for me the sense that messages are embedded here and to be patient, to be persistent, to dig deep so as to uncover meanings that at first seem out of reach.

The next level of interpretation could be how I am inside a Hermes energy field, how it exists in the culture around me, how I am picking up on its form. So, how to work with this, how to understand it?

In my dream I had such a nice connection to the young girl that when I saw this picture of Hermes and his mother, it brought a familiar warmth.
