I have been wondering about the Ferguson shooting and protests from an archetypal lens since we began this course. I was on a teleseminar with Dr. Michael Conforti tonight and he said to ask, when questioning a situation, "What archetype has that particular form?" I don't have an answer fro Ferguson other than I think there is more than one archetype at work. I would love to hear what people think. I am also wondering how the story could be changed. What kind of story could the media tell that would make a difference?

"Ferguson is a Scottish surname and given name. The surname is a patronymic form of the personal name Fergus. The name Fergus is derived from the Gaelic elements fear ("man") and gus ("vigour", "force", or "choice")."
In Irish mythology Fergus was a king who was tricked out of his kingship and betrayed by the powers that be. Reminds me of how white authorities in the US treat black men.
Fascinating! Thank you, Craig. I didn't think to research the name.

I was thinking that I need to reframe the question and instead of asking about the archetypes, I need to ask about the myths. When I think of archetypes, I think of the underlying patterns. It would be useful to ask, What are the mythological stories? And, what new stories could be told in order to shift the situation.
