Calling those who live east of the Mississippi and south of the Mason-Dixon. I love California, Chicago, New York and New England, but need to connect with others in the South who are interested in exploring Jungian/Archetypal theories and practice.

  • Thanks Bonnie,

I'll give it a look between chapters.. :)

  • I've used freeconferencecall.com for years. Costs the price of calling a long distance number for most participants, but usually works very well for at least 15 people--probably more....though you are pushing that number here, Ed! :)
  • Adele,

We are planning to host a conference sometime this year (my dream) in the South. Just got back from the mountains of TN to start my new year. Glad you are with us. The Friends of Jung group died here in KY due to, what I perceived as a too esoteric and somewhat elitist self-identity. That is just my opinion. Any thoughts as to why your group(s) seemed to dissipate?

  • My first comment must not have gone through - I had written a short comment to say how happy I am to have found this online group and seen a few familiar names (hello, Jeanne!), being hungry for contact with other like-minded people. I live in Nashville, TN, where there is no formal depth psychology or Jungian organization, and  I used to be quite involved with Journey into Wholeness and have missed the community that developed around that organization.  Please keep me in the loop for any events being planned in the southeast.
  • I meant to say a bit more, as a way of introduction, about myself.  I am not a licensed psychologist or therapist, but I am a certified Myers-Briggs consultant and have certification as a life coach through the Hudson Institute in Santa Barbara, whose program was compatible with my Jungian orientation ( I did my major presentation on something called "depth coaching," which uses archetypes as a basis of doing personal and spiritual growth coaching, based on Carol Pearson's 12 archetype model).  I also do work in music publishing, performing, and recording here in Nashville, along with my husband, Dan, and my grown kids.  Several friends and I are interested in resurrecting the Jung Society that was active in Nashville in the 1990's, so I welcome contact from anyone who would like to be involved in this.
  • I remember attending a Catholic retreat as a teacher and since I was not wearing a clergy collar, everyone assumed I was a Brother. After explaining that I was not Catholic several times, I gave up and went with the flow. The closest Brother for me is Brother Lawrence. Glad you are with us, even if my jealousy of your warm weather may show through.
  • Hi Ed,

I'm interested in lurking this group. Currently residing in south Florida, which I thought at first might be too shallow for the likes of Depth Psychology, and after our last election I may be right. Be that as it may, here I am, a southern transpersonal transplant at your disposal.

  • Well, I'm back and the mountains of Tennessee were wonderful. Thanks Randal, I'm sure you had something to do with this. :)

Now that the new year has begun (insert sound of noisemaker here), it may be time to tighten up our plans to meet and discuss our first Jung in the South conference. We have 6 states represented so far and a few folks are connected to educational institutions. Been thinking that such an academic environment might introduce students to depth psychology along with sharing with those already on board. However, personally, I like a "place away" as well. (Anyone recognize that I am a Libra?)

Gabriela, are you still interested in hosting our first planning session? (And having a place for the subsequent plaque stating that it all started on your property? :) )

    Ed

  • Thanks, Randal! So when is the Southerns Party??? I'm in!
  • Ed--Have a wonderful trip and enjoy your time "unplugged". You deserve it. Happy new year to you, too!

Jung and the Arts

This will be the focus of the first Jung in the South Conference and except for a few folks I know who would like to present, this is as far as it has gotten. I would like to make this planning a group endeavor. Is anyone connected with a college or university or art institute (housing and board made easier) that might be interested in hosting the event? I imagine during the summer if an academic setting.  If you do plan to check with organizations in your area, please let me know so I don't…

Suggestions on Readings for a Directed Study Proposal.

Since my graduate program doesn't offer any Jungian courses regularly, I'm getting ready to draft a proposal for an independent study course that focuses specifically on Jung.  There's a couple of faculty members that have an interest in Jung that may agree to be the overseer and mentor for me on this.  I figured if I came up with a proposed course of study that it would only help my chances of getting one to agree, but I'm having a very hard time narrowing down what the proposed readings for…
