"Quite well actually.  Although he is of a different school of thought he is very open to new ideas and a healthy debate.  My friend is very "science" orientated and as of late has had a great amount of animosity towards religious fanaticism…"

"Sorry, I didn't know about the character limit...kind of an amusing idea in itself.  This is my first social network.
However, the second reason has to with all of us in the field.  As ones who study depth and continuously look back into our history…"

"Hello Ed,
Thank you for the welcome, it is great to be part of such a community.  As for my choice of picture, where to begin and at what level?  It is titled "The Madhouse" and it was painted by the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya between…"

  • Hey, no worries on the presentation! I live 20 minutes away and never get there myself. Its just part of what it is right now. Meanwhile, we're holding another one at JFK April 15 (not any closer, however) and I pinged Laurel to see if she wouldn't want to do something at SSU--now THAT would be easier, but I'm not sure she can work it in with the end of school year fast approaching.

Meanwhile, thanks again for planting the seed of Ariadne. I can't believe I'm researching the Internet as part of my path and haven't looked at her myth. Labyrinth. Web. Ariadne....ooops! Wonder where the Minotaur is hiding in all this. I think I feel him breathing down my neck.

BTW, I love your writing style--very poetic yet still clear...

Sounds as if you are heading through the labyrinth as we speak.  Turning back and in on yourself, going right by those familiar corners.  But remember, although you seem to have been there before something is a little different, a little smaller, per se, maybe closer to the core.  Good luck with all of your work and I am so sorry to have missed your presentation last week.  The whole family was sick and getting to the city isn't as easy as it was when I was just living the life of a puer!

I'm glad that little comment helped, but you may want to look into the myth of Arachne.  She at one time was probably a spider goddess, but by the time of the Olympian myths she became a maiden...much like Ariadne.  However, Ariadne's thread is a wonderful metaphor.  Given to her by Daedalus to help Theseus out of his predicament, it was a ball of yarn called a "clue" and I think this is pretty self explanatory.  The wise old man, the maiden, the hero and the monster, ahh...I love this stuff.

  • I am familiar with Goya's paintings related to war but had not seen this one before. I am in full agreement with your assessment of society and the place of Jung's perspective in both humanizing the mental health industry and helping society become more soulful, if you will. How was your "presentation" to your friend received?
  • Welcome Chris,

Would enjoy beginning a conversation based upon your choice of picture. Having worked in a few mental institutions and as a depth psychology advocate, we may have much to share. Glad you are with us.

  • Chris: Thank you so much for reminding me about the labyrinth. I had missed that comment, but its so apropos right now. I am entering the dissertation stage, believe it not (seems like I just finished that darn thesis) and my topic has something to do with technology. The image of Ariadne's web is ideal at this moment, and I'm presenting on the Internet in a class in 2 weeks. Excellent! You've already earned the price of admission :)
  • Hi Chris! It's great to see you here. Imagine--this is one way to get some learning and "hang out" with people in the field without having to go anywhere!

I seem to be too busy lately to get out much myself, but I still feel I'm in the midst of it all. So glad you've joined and I hope you find much to interest you--no doubt you will.
