Not sure I even know what Depth Psychology is anymore. I'm beginning to think of it as a word like "gnostic", which Elaine Pagles has shown to be a type of eclecticism.

My connection with China is twofold. My niece is fluent in Mandarin and is headed to Hong Kong to be part of a China program (of which I still am to hear details). She has been to China before which she called her Culture Shock Tour. This time she will be going on business.
The second story comes from a business woman I know who came back too frustrated with trying to do business the Western-way with Chinese business folks. Her take was that a Chinese businessman will sign an agreement that he fully intends to follow through on UNTIL something changes in his business upon which time he will choose to drop the contracted agreement. Not sure if this is a cultural thing or just her bad experience with one company.Never been to India though I have certainly salivated over brochures in the past.
What has you there?

Hi Dave. I'd like to add my rather belated welcome to Ed's. I think you'll find many like-minded individuals in this great community that offers such wonderful opportunities to connect with others, to seek intellectual stimulation, and to work on better understanding self and world. There are lots of Pacifica faculty, grads, and students here as well.
I encourage you to jump in and engage right away by commenting on others' posts, or maybe asking a question or posting links to articles that have had meaning in your life or work in the Forum.
In case you need detailed help on personalizing your profile picture or getting started and navigating the site, please use the following link-- http://www.depthpsychologyalliance.com/page/navigating-the-site --and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions at all! Welcome Dave,
Glad you have found and decided to join the DPA. Please announce your updated website when you get there. It looks interesting. I understand your view of depth psychology as gnostic. I recently read a work that made a distinction between gnostic and gnosticism, stating that depth psychology is gnostic in its broadest sense but not gnosticism in its institutional form. Reminds me of how hard Jung fought to NOT create an institute dedicated to depth psychology.
We have other Alliance members from Asian countries and I have been intrigued to find out if depth psychological concepts relate to the Eastern experience. With the West's emphasis on the individual rather than the Eastern valuing of community (broad brush), I am tempted to think there are substantial differences related to the individuation process.
Again, welcome to the Alliance
