Please share a little about yourself by way of introduction. What draws you to Depth Psychology and what are you looking for from this community?

My thesis-in-progress at Saybrook is entitled: Night Vision: The Role of Dream Content in the Combat Theatre. Here is a brief synopsis of my research: Psychoanalytic treatment for combat deployed and post deployed soldiers considers the broad symptomology of PTSD. While clinical research has identified the PTSD correlation between sleep disorders and combat trauma, most studies have overlooked the subjective nature of the dream as integral to the psyche. Moreover, the rich content of autonomous dream imagery is the means which to acknowledge unrecognized aspects of the psyche. Our intrinsic ability to dream is an underrated, unconscious adaptive process of self-awareness and self-healing. Despite the therapeutic value of dream analysis, the interpretation of dreams has been an under studied and under utilized strategy of communicating with soldier clients about the psychological and environmental conflicts that plague them. An understanding of dream imagery should be a part of every therapist’s toolkit. My desire to practice psychology can be summed up in the following quote from Robert Johnson: “It is not too difficult to get the skeletons out of the closet with people, but to get the gold out is a different matter. That is therapy. Psychology is the art of finding the gold of the spirit.”
