Jung and Fairy Tales - Course Syllabus

____________________________________________________________

Join us for this eight week college level course and learn the basic Jungian approach to understanding and interpreting fairy tales. This course is a comprehensive and essential introduction to the interpretation of fairy tales from the Jungian perspective. This nine week course begins with one free introductory class, followed by eight modules that introduce you to how Jung and his colleague Marie Louise von Franz understood fairy and folk tales, and used them to gain insight into the psyche, and human behavior. The purpose of this course is to help students to become familiar with a variety of fairy and folk tales that, when understood from a Jungian perspective, can be used in the amplification and understanding of dreams and other products of the unconscious psyche. Much of this course will focus on the ideas of Marie Louise von Franz. Although C. G. Jung valued fairy and folk tales greatly, his primary research did not allow him time to delve deeply into the topic. Instead, he encouraged his colleague and sometime collaborator Marie Louise von Franz to pursue this avenue of research, which she spent much of her life doing.  Each weekly meeting will include a presentation and explanation of some aspect of the understanding and interpretation of fairy and folk tales from a Jungian perspective. A discussion and question/answer session will follow. Additionally, a wealth of resources for further study will be available to participants through our online learning platform. Those participants who successfully complete the assignments in the online learning platform will receive a certificate of completion which may be used as credit toward a future certification program. Don’t miss this opportunity to get a solid grounding in the Jungian approach to understanding and interpreting fairy and folk tales. This course is an essential introduction to the interpretation of fairy tales from the Jungian perspective.
