t TEDGlobal 2010, author Matt Ridley shows how, throughout history, the engine of human progress has been the meeting and mating of ideas to make new ideas. It's not important how clever individuals are, he says; what really matters is how smart the collective brain is.

  • The very beginning of the video is what caught my attention. I'm old enough to remember the 60s and 70s and how certain we were about the doom that was awaiting us. Certainty can be a tricky thing in terms how it can shape our reality. Uncertainty can be unnerving as we would all like to find solid ground. Standing somewhere between certainty and uncertainty is an art that I would love to see express more predominately.

I will keep an eye out for videos to post here....

  • Hi John. Glad you enjoyed the video. I thought it was quite remarkable and creative myself! Very compelling. If you are just discovering TED, it is an entity in and of itself. As for the Alliance....well, hoping to have a few more amazing video posted in the interim. If you find some you like while surfing TED, don't hesitate to post it here! I think the concept of modern man (in the spirit of Jung) is a highly relevant and interesting topic....
  • Thanks for posting this Bonnie. An inspiring video and I am happy to discover TED and Matt Ridley.
