Jung said that everything casts a substantial shadow. The ego stands to the shadow as light to shade. It is the shadow that makes us human. Using the 1949 Carol Reed film The Third Man with Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles and selected readings, we will explore various ways the shadow reveals itself in individuals and society and where we might find the shadow in the astrological chart. Discussions will focus on the basic aspects of the shadow including manifestations, effects, the role of projection and how we need to be adept at integrating the shadow for our psychological growth. Excerpts of the film will be shown during the workshop. It is highly recommended that participants see the film in its entirety prior to the workshop.
