About the course: James Hillman was a master of alchemical psychology, a field using metaphors derived from ancient alchemy to elucidate deep structures in the creative imagination.

Patricia Berry was among the early founders of Archetypal Psychology beginning in the mid-1960s in Zurich. She was companion & spouse of James Hillman for 20 years.

James Hillman was the primary training analyst of Robert Bosnak who developed the field of embodied imagination: the way in which images can be felt in the body & shape our embodied condition.

This course follows the teachings of Hillman in his final & most profound book Alchemical Psychology which can be difficult to read for those not steeped in alchemy or the work of Jung & Hillman. Berry & Bosnak have both worked with and studied these thinkers for over 40 yrs.

They go through the book Alchemical Psychology often page by page, dropping between the lines into the great mystery.

Robert Bosnak PsyA is a Jungian analyst who graduated from the Jung Institute in Zurich in 1977. Since, he has been in private practice in the US & Australia. He founded the Santa Barbara Healing Sanctuary, developed a method of working with dreams called Embodied Imagination and wrote the worldwide bestseller 'A Little Course In Dreams'

Patricia Berry PhD is the author of Echo's Subtle Body: A Contribution to Archetypal Psychology. Her dissertation at the U. of Dallas was a study of Jung's work as a psychopoeisis. In 1991 she became the 1st Scholar in Residence at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is president of The Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, is in private practice & does supervision

  • The emphasis on essentializing at the end of the lecture..."the fixed inflammable essence of a love that once flamed to heaven."  This creates some sadness in me...do I want all this salt, do I want more sulfur, or do I want more dissolution of salt?

  • Robert Bosniak suggested that before the class we pour a few grains of salt into our palm and taste them. "The taste in your mouth is an encounter with the intelligence of the presence of salt, one of the ways it speaks to us."

So I ordered French fries and indulged in the intelligence and presence of every single salty one. ;)

    Really looking forward to this.

  • Hi all. A couple of you have asked whether having done the first Bosnak/Berry Alchemy course is a pre-requisite for this one.

In the first session, Bosnak and Berry used an informal, conversational style I found fairly easy to follow, and they went quite linearly page by page.

In this next session, it is my understanding that they will pick up in a later/next section in the book and do the same. I don't think you need to have done the first section necessarily, as it focused on the concepts presented in that part of the book, and this next one will focus on new/different concepts.

However, I'm sure it's always good to have as much foundation as you can in Hillman's work as it varies a bit from Jung's concepts of alchemy. If you're interested in getting the first one, you can purchase the whole thing (10 sessions) from Jung Platform here.

Be sure to use code DEPTH at checkout and, as an Alliance member, you will get at least 10% off.
