Course Info: This is Part 1 of a 2-yr course, made of 4 sections of 6 months each. Each 6 mos has 10 live webinars, each 1.5 hours. This 1st course started Jan 9 2014 but you may join anytime. Recordings are included for all participants, as is access to the online discussion forum on Depth Alliance. Live webinars start at 6pm PST.

About the course: James Hillman was a master of alchemical psychology. This field uses metaphors derived from ancient alchemy to elucidate deep structures in the creative imagination. Creative processes are not random. Imagination embodies along lines that become apparent when we ponder the frequently incomprehensible images of alchemy. Hillman was the primary training analyst of Robert Bosnak, who developed the field of embodied imagination: the way in which images can be felt in the body and shape our embodied condition. By studying alchemical psychology we come to understand ourselves and other humans in surprising ways.

This course will follow the teachings of Hillman in his final & most profound book, Alchemical Psychology, which covers a lifetime of studies and can be difficult to read by one who is not deeply steeped in alchemy, the work of Jung as well as  Hillman. Bosnak & Berry have studied these thinkers for well over 40 years.

In the course of 30-40 sessions, we will go through the book Alchemical Psychology page by page, dropping even between the lines into the great mystery itself. For those who have tasted these mysteries, there is no way back. One is haunted by them for life. It was so with Jung, Hillman & with Bosnak & Berry as well. It will happen to you if you’re open to it.

Robert Bosnak, PsyA, is a Jungian psychoanalyst who graduated from the CG Jung Institute in Zurich in 1977. He has been in private practice in the US & Australia. He founded the Santa Barbara Healing Sanctuary, developed a method of working with dreams called Embodied Imagination. He has written several books, including the worldwide bestseller A Little Course In Dreams.

Patricia Berry, Ph.D, is one of the founders of Archetypal Psychology along with James Hillman. She is a Zurich-trained Jungian Analyst & author of Echo’s Subtle Body: A Contribution to Archetypal Psychology.  In 1991 she was the 1st Scholar in Residence at Pacifica Graduate Institute in California. She lectures internationally & has served as president of both the New England & the Inter-Regional Societies of Jungian Analysts.

  • Hi Kathleen--and all. Links to both audio (mp3) and video (mp4) files will be made available to all participants a day after the webinar takes place. Last night's event had some crackling in Robert's microphone and we're hoping to improve it a bit, so it may be tomorrow (Saturday) before it's ready. Regardless all registered participants will receive an email with those links as soon as they are done!

  • Hi Barbara. Robert and Pat will be focusing on James Hillman's writings collected in his book "Alchemical Psychology". I don't know if they are recommending a specific edition. Here's a link to the Amazon e-book which is only $10, and I'm sure they will offer more info as the start date approaches.... http://www.amazon.com/Alchemical-Psychology-Uniform-Edition-Writing...
  • Who is the author of the Alchemical Psychology book? Wanting to make sure I'm looking at the correct text. Cavalli? Thank you.

  • Hi Ursula and all. The 6pm start time for webinars will be PST. Also, just as a reminder, all sessions will be recorded for later listening at your convenience.
