The Joseph Campbell Foundation Mythological RoundTable of Ojai invites you to The Ojai Foundation on June 29th at 5:30 PM for a talk on The Mythology of Eden with author, cultural historian, and mythologist Art George.

For thousands of years, the story of Eden has been foundational to the Abrahamic religions and to Western Civilization. Every man, woman and child—Jew, Christian, Muslim or not—has learned this story, and it has sculpted our culture and worldview. Yet, as Art will show, much of the myth's meaning remains hidden in its symbols, and lost in a language that few of us read. Following the traditions of comparative mythology, symbolic studies, and depth psychology, his new book, The Mythology of Eden, unravels valuable insights about the myth's meaning. Join us under the Teaching Tree as Art works through the myth's symbols, the narrative's meaning, and the story’s potential relevance to us today.

Art George is a cultural historian, mythologist and prizewinning author who, together with his wife Elena, recently penned their newest book, The Mythology of Eden. Research for the project called them to sites, museums and libraries across the world—especially throughout Israel. Art practiced international law for over 30 years until retiring this past December. While working and sometimes living in Europe, he and his wife Elena wrote, St. Petersburg: Russia’s Window to the Future, The First Three Centuries, which won the prestigious Antsiferov Prize for the best book by a foreign author about St. Petersburg.
