"I think we can make it happen, I've been meeting with the chairs of my program and rallying the students in the myth department... I'd also love to open more dialogue with the assissi institute (which I noticed Bonnie works for) and a few others. I…"

Is your writing group in the Carpinteria area? do you live in the area?
Where you are going with your last comment gets me back…"

"Well, to be honest, I went through a series of three types of spells. The first was a convulsive sleep paralysis that was supposedly not epileptic. Then I also had a combination of temporal lobe seizures and nystagmus (eyes bouncing back and forth…"

  • Very hopeful and interesting...I only wish I had more time for perusing the site. Between papers, lectures and performances, I am way over my head in work. Let me know if there's something in particular I should check out- and thanks for the suggesting it in the first place!
  • Hey Will, it looks cool so far, haven't really had a chance to explore too much as I'm struggling with my papers this quarter...
  • Sounds like a plan. It's off to the dream world for me. Talk to you later.
  • Most of my cohort are members and Bonnie, the founder and creator, is also a member of my cohort.
She has kindly allowed me to be the co-administrator. I do not know about the other cohort in depth. Now that the depth program has been split into specialities, we are the last class to be "generalists." I live in Kentucky.
I agree about more communication between groups. There are a number of times that I have wanted the ready knowledge of myth to highlight and enlighten some concept from depth about which I am writing. Lets talk further at some time about this possible collaboration.
  • I really like the phrases "jumping into stillness" and "higher realities."
I'm still in the PhD depth program hopefully starting my PhD work sometime this summer.
My interest was sparked by numinous experiences (primarily dreams, visions, and meditations) that I consciously suppressed as my generation had trouble accepting such unless they were drug induced. (Imagine hippies with "magic mushrooms" and you won't be far off.) The fact that I experienced them without use of chemicals made my friends suspicious and in an attempt to remain friends, I kept silent.
My writing has normally been of the experience amplified type where a "chance" happening inspires a reflection on life. I'm in a writers group and that has help immensely. I have written and produced plays at the local level and that is still an interest also. Actually, truth be told, I just love words.
My fifth grade teacher caused me to be bitten by the myth bug in that that was all we used to learn to further our reading and writing skills.
Speaking of waking to higher realities, I just remembered that there are references to such in Eastern thought and medieval Christianity.

  • I'm curious. Was the seizure the basis for the story or something within the seizure? As to your youth, more years to offer your talents! As one who is WAY past 24, get it done while you have the energy and focus and, maybe, fewer pulls on your attention. Keep in touch as you go through the program. Writing stimulation was one of my reasons for attending Pacifica as well.
  • Welcome Will,

Another Pacifica-ite!!! I see your interest in story and wonder how that has played out in your profession and/or life. Hope you will find the Alliance a place to explore and share your interests with others.

  • Hi Will. Welcome to the Alliance! Glad to have you here in the community. I am currently finishing coursework in the Depth program at Pacifica and there are lots of other Pacifica students, grads, and faculty here as well--but we truly have an international alliance with members coming from all over the world.

BTW, that's one reason there's no "box check" on the profile question about being a therapist--there are so many different programs and requirements around the globe that I left it open-ended so people can explain their status if they want to.

Meanwhile, I hope you'll jump in here and engage right away by commenting, joining discussions, checking out the groups, and posting some of your own work if you're willing. I'll send you some additional info on navigating the site under separate cover, and meanwhile, enjoy!
