M.A., Jungian

Pacifica Graduate Institute

no
Please share a little about yourself by way of introduction. What draws you to Depth Psychology and what are you looking for from this community?
Narrative psychology combined with social systems on the "outside" and Jungian understanding of the interior "systems" make a nice pairing. Currently working on soul-related theoretical research establishing that soul is a misnomer. A proper understanding begins with seeing that souling as process is a better beginning to understanding the workings within the Psyche.
Do you belong to any other online Psychology-related communities or orgs? If so, which?
Many, but most are Jungian based.

I hear ya on experiencing them without drugs.. I went through some pretty trippy experiences just with my seizures.
Is your writing group in the Carpinteria area? do you live in the area?
Where you are going with your last comment gets me back into my thoughts about how much more dialogue there should be between the myth and depth programs.. It is actually a project of mine, and it's what's led me to this site. More on that later though, but let me ask, how active are the depth students on this site? Do they all know about it?
Well, to be honest, I went through a series of three types of spells. The first was a convulsive sleep paralysis that was supposedly not epileptic. Then I also had a combination of temporal lobe seizures and nystagmus (eyes bouncing back and forth due to an inner ear imbalance) that triggered each other early on, then split into two different situations.
During the sleep paralysis episodes I would be filled with a violent convulsive energy that I would short circuit by jumping into stillness (a reflex I learned during these events then later used to cure my seizures). After jumping into stillness, I would wake up to it happening again, and again, and again, but I never experienced falling asleep.. So the inspiration was the experience of continually waking up into higher realities.
So you went through the depth program? What direction did it take your writing?
Hello Ed,
I am sorry to hear you have/had cancer; but I am touched by the experience of dnce you share where you worked with the cancer and found more meaning. Hearing about the girl with anorexia is meaningful to me, as I am an eating disorders specialist (I don't like the term 'disorder' or 'eating disorder' for that matter, but use it for understanding), and I have been wondering about whether to look at starting some movement therapy with eating disorder sufferers, but was unsure due to it involving the body in such a senstitive way; seeing what you write has made me think 'this could work'..so thankyou.
Black Swan...I am one of the group who love it..yes, it is painful as it illuminates my own shadow...but I would rather work wih my shadow than split it off....
Thanks for the welcome, Ed. I've been looking around the website and feel that marginalization I was talking about. I mean, I have access, through the Alliance, to people who look at the world from a depth psychological perspective. Next week, in my group supervision, I will feel like I have to hide who I really am because none of the other trainees and interns at the non-profit I work at have any idea what depth psychology is about. So to be training to enter a profession in which I already feel cast out to the edge of the edge is a progression I feel a fair amount of ambivalence about. On one hand I don't like being mocked or made fun of because I earned my MA from a school, Pacifica, steeped in depth psychology. On the other hand another part of me actually likes being at the edge. There's some freedom out there. Thanks again for the welcome. Talk to you again soon. Dennis P
Hi Ed,
Thanks for the welcome. what a great site this is! And, what a great community. I'm glad I found it and am a part of it. I will do whatever I can to spread the word and participate as fully as I can. Thanks for the message!

Hi Ed,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I heard about the site via graduate students at Pacifica.
My own meanderings in Psychology include a number of graduate degrees including a Ph.D from Emory focused in neuropsychology. I wandered looking for a way of understanding my experience of the journey. Jung's approach has made the most comprehensive sense by far. After a number of years of Depth therapy, I began focusing my work more and more in alignment with a Depth Psych approach. My earlier years as a Cajun were a bit mystical to begin with. Early years in a seminary studying Medieval History and philosophy began my curiosity for a richer understanding. Jung's work have helped fill in the blank spaces.
That's the brief vita. flm
Hi Ed,
Thank for the welcome. My MA from Pacifica was a duel degree in Depth Psych and Mythology.
I look forward to navigating the site!
Cheers,
