Too many Jungs

It's strange that DPA, which stems from a psychology that espouses the importance of individuation, should have so many members who don't bother to insert either their own photo or something that symbolizes their unique, iconic image. Using Jung's photo as a default is a sad irony. Perhaps, an automatic system, containing an image bank (clowns, animals, caricatures all come to mind) is activated when  a member fails to complete the registration process. Left to chance, I'm sure my image would have been a grinning fool!

  • Hey Bob--I'm sure a few others who haven't yet posted something more personal in the way of an image have the same question. I'll post the "how-to" change out your photo in a new post in the Forum so anyone who happens to be looking for it will have an easier time finding it. Then we won't corrupt Thom's philosophical question with technology issues :) (The question is, can we really keep them separate, though?) :)
  • :)

My mask is related to my history, my persona, my love of theatre and ritual, and I think its cool; plus, I collect masks.

I used to be a dolphin (spirit animal-water) but that seemed too easy.

I really like the smiling fool for its 3D effect and motion.

  • Well! Interesting observation and commentary, Thom. I admit, you've sucked me in. As a party who is, errhhh, guilty of both your charges, I guess I have to face the music here.

My "defense", Your Honor, is that I assume most people who are not familiar with Depth Psychology (as well as those who are) could relate most easily to Carl Jung (--not sure they would have recognized Giegerich, for example!) and I had to pick one, so C.G. still gets the honor and privilege of representing every one of us by default--and we get the honor and privilege of having him represent us if we so choose!

Meanwhile, for myself, I chose the icon of the honeybee because I have been so profoundly affected by my depth psychological work with the symbol - it just seems right. I have to admit I'm tempted by the icon you have offered up! We are all, if nothing else, grinning fools! :) Maybe I'll be tempted to switch out good old default-Jung for that one day!
    • I, too, share a fascination with bees. You might take a look at Alchemical Psychology, pps. 250-251, 331. I also just discovered a new book that might interest you, Bees, Honey and the Hive: Circumambulating the Center ( A Jungian exploration of the symbolism and psychology) Frith Lutgon, 2011 ISBN 978-1-894574-32-7, Inner City Books.
      • Bonnie,

If you want the Alchemical Psychology text, I can bring it this week.

        Ed

        • Thank you, Ed! Synchronistically, Alchemical Psych is one of the first books I bought years ago at the beginning of my journey in Depth Psychology studies. I would love to get a look at the one on bees, though! Never heard of that one, Thom, and that's surprising. I'll find it. Thanks for the recommendation. Even though my thesis is long since done, the bees have not loosed their grip. Guess we're a team...
