An artist is a sketchbook with a person attached," artist Irwin Greenberg said. OK, but what if you're not an artist? Or, at least, not yet. Can you still gain something from incorporating a sketchbook into your everyday life? The answer is yes, yes, a million times yes. And here's why. Exercising your creative mind…

Dream: I am at some kind of outdoor function. There is a woman who jumps up and starts cleaning. I hear Mozart music and I close my eyes and start to spin around and around on the chair I am sitting on which now feels like a piano stool. It feels good…

My sense is that these problems are partly due to a disconnection from the individual's core soul source - as well as a loss of serving as a channel for spiritual expression. I am inviting folks to share how they stay connected to their creative…

When I sit at the able and the cutlery and glasses gleam
When the napkins are folded white
When the chair scrapes the floor just right
And my skirt rustles on the seat
Neither brocade nor velvet, nor cotton or silk
But a soft and pliant fabric
Like the wished for comfort of the soul
In love with God
That is when I know I will have found you
To earn a seat at that table
Requires the silence of the self
Quiet as a proverbial mouse
All potentia, possible movement, thought, desire
All probable outcomes
Held as softly as a breath before beauty
Suspended in time until the hand reaches out
And issues the invitation
Come, sit at my table
On the right side of the hand of God
And you, my friends, will have already gathered
Each sitting at the place of honor
For there are no contradictions
At the table God sets
For those who seek
The narrow path
The Red Book readers edition can be found through Amazon and most bookstores currently. It is the Red Book without the pictures and much of the commentary. As to posting art, it would seem that starting a Discussion Forum (top of group screen) related to one posted work would be a way of centering discussion just on one work at a time. Just put the name of the work as the topic and copy the work into the first comments. I think that might work.
Leslie, What is the Red Book readers edition? I would love to read about Jung and art.
Also, as far as posting art, where would it be a good place to post art that we can discuss. I hope to have it all in a book one day. I will keep you all posted.
Hi Roberta,
Yes maybe you're right it would be more appropriate to dialogue in length about works of art, thoughts, etc. in the discussion forum. I've been reading the Red Book readers edition with the introduction by Sonu Shamdasani. Absolutely fascinating insight into Jung and art. I hope to post a discussion in the forum in the coming weeks.
Hi Leslie, Thank you. Yes, it's on paper.
Barbara, I also, like Ed, look forward to your sharing pieces here as well.
Anyone, Moderators: I am wondering, should art be posted on the "comment wall" or "discussion area? I am thinking, if we are to discuss art, it will be more fluid from the discussion standpoint.
Barbara,
Intriguing summary of your works-to-come. My interest is a multi-media approach. Will have fun discussing your art as it comes.
I am currently working on a paper on expressive creativity for healing of trauma to create personal and social change - a Jungian approach. I am using my dreams and photography and Photoshop to express and interpret the symbolism in the dream. I hope to have some work to share with people on this list in the very near future.
Barb
Glad to see someone posting new artwork here! Interesting painting Roberta.
Given the depth of field it looks as if you're working on paper?
Les
I joined primarily because I'm working on a Docorate at Saybrook and I needed to cite a "Website" as one of my resources. I've been a subscriber of the Jung Journal for 15 + years. As I told the current poetry editor ( thier first) I'm not particularly interested in the verse I have read. I haven't the time or interst in submitting work at this juncture. Though as an artist I write endlessly. I find the computer ( I don't write on the computer all my ideas are written by hand) stiltitifying ( I can't spell). Addtionally the way the computer cuts, line breaks, formatting etc is like a knife through my heart. I think of mellarme or Stevens ( his secrarary typed all his work) or Stan Rice ( didn't do a whole bunch of editing) . ED tying her poems together in little packets. Now that's a buzy bee ! My hands feel imprisoned by the keyboard. Like a medevail torture ( there is an image of dismeberment). In any case I got a liitle of my German anarchist energy out. I love art. all kinds. Those statues at the Chicago Art Instutue where bought by pork belly baron's money. It makes no difference to me. Enjoy your art and I look forward to seeing others work. Though most likely I won't share much of my own ( I don't have the time and the computer again is an impedement for me)......all the best, Jeff
My Mother Donna Rahn was a wonderful artist. My 4 year old brother on the steps of the Chicago Art institute seeing a naked Greeks Statue: " Mom, thier naked" to which my Mother replied, " That's Art".
I find Facebook and all these web pages destroys line breaks, dashs, demension etc. Just think it might have taken another Emily Dickinson another 50 years to get her poetry published if there had been internet.
My Architect
In a dream I'm running through a courtyard made of stone. stairs resemble those of a great University, library, museum... or church.
Like a small child I'm skipping through columns under arches and jumping down stairs.
I'm aware of a time before time. a place where man can learn.
a place where man can build on the past.
not cast aside ancient architecture
or archetypes but also
discover new in-
spiration......
