Denita Benyshek commented on Denita Benyshek's photo
"You're right, Tim. This medium is just about impossible to photograph (not that any work of art makes the transition to photography without some, if not much, loss). I'll post a detail later. The work started with me drawing a large vase. Dull. So,…"

"The paint does float in space, since we have learned to look through glass, not see it as solid. I have had, for the past few years, a yearning to do sculpture, though, to bring the work out into 3D space - that is one of my next places to go."

"What I've seen is that when a function is weak, the artwork is not as integrated, not as "strong". I don't think all four functions are ever in balance, 1 or 2 often dominate. In most people. As a teacher, I've seen students who need to develop this…"

In my 20s, after the BFA, I realized that the most important skill I needed to learn for making art was how to shift my attention from my job, chores, errands, whatever, into…"

I watched your film - wish I could have seen the exhibit itself. Drawings, an artist's process, are rarely exhibited (generally) and we are usually shown the final product (painting, sculpture, etc.). So the evolution you showed in the…"

You spoke of the 4 Jungian personality types. I was once asked what an artists needed to do to make great art - or some such question - and I suddenly realized that all 4…"

Beyond the extrovert/introvert dichotomy, I could…"

There are many possible responses: As long as you need to. Until you are ready. You don't have to wait - you can go after it - as in finding inspiration is not a passive activity - one can go inwards or outwards…"

I suppose there could be similarities to the empty chair technique you describe, and certainly I've known artists who benefited from putting an empty chair outside their studio door, inviting their inner critique to have a seat and get…"

  • Actually, one event that I sponsored in relation to the juncture of art and psychology involved 10 high school age d young women. We went to a local art museum and they were given an hour to walk around the galleries and take note of several things: 1) what piece(s) really upset them. 2) What pieces made them laugh. 3) What pieces seemed to speak to something "deeper" even if they didn't know what that was. 4) Or what the deeper message was that they did see. 5) What piece didn't seem like art at all. (Why is THIS in an art gallery?) 6) The one piece, money aside, that you would like to take home and why.

We then got together for lunch and some reflection in general about the experience.

Then we went back through the galleries together and each person described the works they had chosen and why for each of the question.

It was a high moment in my teaching career, one which brings a smile each time I think of it.

Thanks for giving me a chance to remember and smile again! :)

  • Hi Denita. I'd like to add my welcome to Ed's. From perusing your web site a bit, I can see you are clearly in touch with your gifts in this life. I'm grateful you've found the Alliance and I hope you'll find this a place to deeply connect with likeminded others.

Please share at whatever level you feel comfortable, but I would love to hear more about your thoughts and experiences with shamanism (maybe join the Shamanism group here in the community?) and I'm also deeply drawn to Slavic cosmology, though I have direct experience with it in my daily reality.

Meanwhile, I'll  send you some tips on navigating the site in a separate email in case its of help. Enjoy the site, and I look forward to seeing you around. ~Bonnie Bright, Founder

  • Welcome Denita,

As I was viewing your art I suddenly realized I had to breathe! Wonder-full work. There are several artists as members of the Alliance. I hope you will meet them through the many blogs, forums, and groups. I look forward to your posts and any additional artworks you wish to share. Again, welcome.

    Ed
