Joshua Koleszar replied to Sandy Nathan's discussion JANUARY: Welcome to the Alliance Online Book Club with Sandy Nathan and "Numenon" in ARCHIVED-Book Club 2012-2013
"The way we think we know everything. The darkness in the light. How blind some people on the "spiritual path" can be.

Yes - Robert Moore says that if you get inflated, even if you're a spiritual guru and your inflation looks like "I'm a spiritual…"

"Hi all,

I finally read through all the comments so far. *whew*

One thing that stirred me in the book is Grandfather's shadow side coming out in his harrowing, vengeful rant on p. 117-118.  Just as he seemed eager to crush Paul's outlines for the…"

"Ed,

Thanks for the kind and personal welcome.  Christianity and I are taking kind of a hiatus right now, or rather, I'm taking a bit of a hiatus from Christianity.  My parents, my birthplace, and Christianity are all kind of bunched together in a…"

  • Hi Joshua. I would also like to add my welcome to Ed's. I'm glad you've found us. I think you'll find many like-minded individuals in the community who also want to stay connected with other like-minded individuals, seek intellectual stimulation, and to work on better understanding themselves.

Meanwhile, I encourage you to jump in and engage right away by joining a discussion, commenting on others' posts, or posting some of your own work. I'll send you some tips on navigating the site in a separate email. Enjoy! Bonnie Bright, Founder

  • I was brought up in a Christian home and went to a "Christian" college where I rejected Christianity and became an academic and sometimes practicing Buddhist. This means that when I returned to Christianity I had a far different lens to experience the more mystical aspects of the faith as more essential than what Christianity presented then and especially now. Also the reason why I believe Jung has much to offer any religious tradition as a way to return to that original numinous experience of life.

Blessings on your path. Keep in touch.

  • Welcome Joshua,

Glad you found and joined the Alliance. As to your not finding mana in Christianity as it is currently experienced, I would suggest the blending of Christian and Jungian thought presented by Ann and Barry Ulanov. He has died but Ann is still writing and speaking (I believe.) A recent title is The Living God and our Living Psyche. My favorite is Primary Speech that relates to prayer. My current doctoral work is about the interface between Christian thought and experience and Jungian thinking around the soul/psyche connection. Would enjoy any continuing conversation in this area. HOWEVER, there are many interesting topics within the Alliance so after you have found some blogs, forums, and groups to your liking, I will look forward to your posts.

    Ed
