This picture of me with Thung Thang and Marjorie Farrar was taken at the annual Burma Day gathering in the East Bay a few years ago. My friend, the photographer and activist George Berticivich took the photo. George had just arranged for Thang's release, with the help of Marjorie's boss, the late Congressman Tom Lantos, after 8 years of torture and imprisonment for speaking out (alone) against the junta in Myanmar, protesting the imprisonment of Aung San Suu Kyii, Burma's democratically elected leader and the "Gandhi of SE Asia."
