Calling those who live east of the Mississippi and south of the Mason-Dixon. I love California, Chicago, New York and New England, but need to connect with others in the South who are interested in exploring Jungian/Archetypal theories and practice.

  • Actually, the uniting of psychology and religion was the path I was on when I decided to go to Pacifica. I was in NC at the time and no psychology dept. wanted to look seriously at religion and no religion dept. wanted to consider its psychological characteristics (except maybe pastoral counseling or chaplaincy in a hospital). I am a pastor and am quite interested in your self-designation as a post-Christian. No agenda in the inquiry, just curiosity. It sounds as if it touches on my own experiences.
As to a place to meet, this means that both you and Jeanne have places. I'm feeling an initial meeting where we could brainstorm ideas for the next step in officially creating an organization focused on Jungian theory and ___________. (?) Jeanne, Brian, Karen, Catherine - thoughts?????
  • P.S. I often host retreats at my home, which is quite literally built for that purpose. With the current small membership of "Jung in the South," I could manage a retreat with ease. Something to keep in mind... :D
  • Yes, the leaves are turning now, it's gorgeous, and we've had a few days of perfect fall weather following a summer of draught, intense heat, locusts (figuratively speaking), and general economic distress.

My specific interest, Ed, is in Jung's psychology of religion, which I would describe as a vocation for me as a post-Christian, yet still involved church and community person. I'm a professional educator, looking for ways to bring Jung into my very traditional community. How about you?
  • Welcome Gabriela !!! I spent many years in Virginia and the Shenandoah is beautiful. Leaves changing yet?? Sorry my welcome is late. My LLC is sponsoring a production of a small all-female theatre group this month. Promotional concerns have grabbed my time. Its about the women who went into the mountains of Eastern Kentucky (just look west!!) to establish the first mountain schools.
Gabriela, what was/is your area of interest??
  • Maybe we can make a Jungian retreat happen . . . Ed, it was delightful to meet you. It looks like I might be back on campus for your next residency: Nov. 1-3 . . . to defend my dissertation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am really coming to closure on this journey. It's amazing!
  • I'm a recent Pacifica graduate and I love the South (I currently live in the Shenandoah Valley), but I really need to connect with other depth psychologists and Jungians in the region. After many years of living in California and New York, I'm finding my beautiful rural community a little isolating from the Jungian perspective.
  • Actually, I will be at Pacifica Sept. 26th thru 29th. Shall I wear a large carnation?? (And, if so, where do I pick up a carnation in SB? I'll email.
    See you soon.
  • Yes. Let's talk. My email is jeanneschul@gmail.com
I will be at Pacifica to do my OPUS research September 22-28. If you happen to be in residence then, I'd love to meet you and any other Southerns!
  • I'm part of a group sponsoring a Walk for MS that weekend so I can't make the NC conference. In a word: Bummer!!!! Looks like a great gathering of persons and topics. I'm beginning to feel the need to talk on the phone with you at some time. Is this possible?
  • Beautiful. (more comments to come after checking my calendar)

Jung and the Arts

This will be the focus of the first Jung in the South Conference and except for a few folks I know who would like to present, this is as far as it has gotten. I would like to make this planning a group endeavor. Is anyone connected with a college or university or art institute (housing and board made easier) that might be interested in hosting the event? I imagine during the summer if an academic setting.  If you do plan to check with organizations in your area, please let me know so I don't…

Suggestions on Readings for a Directed Study Proposal.

Since my graduate program doesn't offer any Jungian courses regularly, I'm getting ready to draft a proposal for an independent study course that focuses specifically on Jung.  There's a couple of faculty members that have an interest in Jung that may agree to be the overseer and mentor for me on this.  I figured if I came up with a proposed course of study that it would only help my chances of getting one to agree, but I'm having a very hard time narrowing down what the proposed readings for…
