Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Thom F. Cavalli, Ph.D.'s discussion May Book Club in ARCHIVED-Book Club 2012-2013
"Thank you Sir!
As a matter of fact, I just now finished reading a book on Ancient History between 20000 BC to 5000 BC. It was written by Steve Mithen, an archaeologist. It talked more about the history of human culture during the time from LGM (Last…"

"Very true. One another reason for this is also because of the rise and spread of Mesopotamian civilization. It represented an amalgam of different religious beliefs, which again came from different tribes of hunter-gatherers and first generation…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Thom F. Cavalli, Ph.D.'s discussion May Book Club in ARCHIVED-Book Club 2012-2013
"I believe, with the fall of Egyptian dynasty, partly due to famine and partly by conquest, the Egyptian pantheon of gods, got absorbed into other religions. One such example is that of the cult of 'Amun Ra', which got absorbed into Christianity by…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Good for you Michelle, that you're graduating in psychology. As for me, I'm a software professional, doing research on this (out of my interest).
What you said is true. One can train oneself. But won't training create a sort of veil, that which make…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Great point made Michelle. One thing that you had put forth (maybe unknowingly) is the role of our thought process in happiness. It is, by no means, just an emotional outflow, though it is an emotion! In your case (that  of headache), you maybe…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Well, Kay, there is an underlying truth in your above experience. That we never forget happy moments, we only fail to retrieve them often. Perhaps, happiness, realized in and around, here and there, tends to get overwritten by...well happiness…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"One small thing Michelle. Can this person (with an overflowing positive hormones) sustain his state of happiness, or least, prolong it far enough to perceive, and, identify opportunities? I think one needs to learn this art, I daresay. But your…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Very true Joe. Happiness, unfortunately, remains ephemeral, at least partially. Very transient in nature. That's why sustaining happiness is more difficult (and hence requires mental strength) than finding happiness. I would surely read through your…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Thanks Kay. That's why depressive patients are asked (by psychologists) to train their minds to accept that they're in a happy state. That's when our emotional selves exhibit the behaviour we call 'Happiness'.
It is aptly supported by our body…"

Shriram Sivaramakrishnan replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Hi Kay,
Thanks for the reply. I am sure you'd agree that Happiness do not connote just joy, and, plus, it can be ephemeral too, very transient.
To me, such a state has two attributes - emotive and cognitive. Emotional attribute acts like a symptom,…"

  • Welcome Shriram,

Enjoyed your blog, especially the phrase "waiting for some soul to stroll." Great images jumped to mind as I read that. Glad you found and joined the Alliance. There are several writers of various styles within the Alliance so I hope you will cross verses with them at some point. Many topics are approached in the blogs, forums, and groups. I look forward to your posts.
