  • I was looking for the dream that bill Gellen's e-mail referred to. is it in a different section?
  • Hi Ruth! I feel like a bum, it's been so long since we've had coffee and talked . . . and, then, I'm remiss in responding to your comment last week!

I think that you have brought some clarity to something that wasn't clear at all to me when I wrote my comments on May 26th. And it seems so obvious to me now--our dreams do implicate our consciousness. That is, they help bring to consciousness that which has been unconscious. Of course, silly me. Thank you.

  • Hi Dorene, I wanted to comment on your May 26 post. I think they're implicating (great choice of word) the unconscious. At least the part of the uncs that can leak into csness. What do you think?
  • I love both your comments, Ruth and Lilan! As we evolve and individuate, we are able to discern deeper and deeper insights from even our old dreams. And . . . insofar as we learn and grow because of unpacking earlier dreams, our dreams do follow sequential time. I know for myself that the "fineness" of my dreams has changed over time, as my understanding of myself has deepened with age.
  • I see the dream world as another life, but I'm willing to sit with the unknowing of it-there will be no conformation if it is or if it is something different. It is very possible that we work on our issues from several layers of time.  I'm not so sure that 'old' dreams represent the past. Many of us continue to work on our "old dreams" and find there is always more to be had from them.  Sometimes there is an image that doesn't respond to active imagination, or painting, etc. I tuck those away until I have time to delve...
  • Hi Dorene, I agree that dreams are so complex, and some dreams seem more powerful and evocative than others.  In regards to your question about if there are different layers to our psychology, I am reminded of this quote I have been pondering in the Red Book (p. 242) where Jung says "We also live in our dreams, we do not live only by day. Sometimes we accomplish our greatest deeds in dreams."

This quote implies that Jung sees the dream world as an entirely different reality. I have never really thought of dreams that way before. I think of them as messages from the unconscious about this current reality that I live in. But, what if the dream world is a different reality, unhinged from this current day to day life. Then we would be living an entire existence, and the older dreams would be like past events in the life of that existence. And just as we continue to learn from our past expereriences in our day to day life, we could also learn from the past experiences of our dreams. It makes a lot of sense.

  • Dreams are so rich and complex, regardless how seemingly ordinary! Recently, over a couple of months, I had the interest and opportunity to re-work several dreams with someone whose dreamwork I'd not experienced before. I had unpacked each of the five dreams when I originally had them (and some with more than one dream worker). Re-working them in the context of my life today, I have uncovered further symbolism and meaning. In fact, it seems that the dreams were more about today than when I had them. Yes, they express themes and patterns. However, it has been more than that. It's as if these dreams still held some of my life force--vitality I need, now, to live my life and move into my future. These old dreams contained information necessary to my life today.

I have always believed that biological organisms exist in several dimensions at the same time, and time is one of those dimensions. But, what about the layers of our psychology? Are our dreams implicating different domains of our consciousness? Or, are they expressions of those different domains? In my own case, going back over past dreams seemed to make available to me additional life force that had been . . . trapped? Not the best word, but it will do. Thoughts from others?

  • Great post Ed, I wonder about the same things!  Is being hermetically sealed something to strive for??  ;- )
  • Lisa, I appreciate your feedback. Based on my research of Haden I knew it was less Christian-centric than it appears on the web site but did have a bit of hesitation when I read over the schedule for this year along those very lines. Several of the workshops really appeal to me so having just come back from my first Pacifica cohort gathering with a bit more clarity on what I'm in this for, I suspect I will enroll in the conference and attend the sections that call to me. (Dorene - I intended to start a new discussion with my post on the conference but it was early morning and I was not fully awake yet. Thought of you when I spent a few hours with family in Napa on Monday before flying out of CA!)
  • I just realized we don't have a way to copy and 'insert' our posts in this new format. If everyone agrees, I would be willing to copy and paste all in order from newest to earliest. won't do without your permission, though.

When Dreams Depict a Stage in the Alchemical Process

I have been going through profound changes for the last three years that have included a number of losses. I have glibly referred to my situation on occasion as "my dismantling." I'm coming out the other end, but managing my mood is still an effort. I don't know a lot about alchemy, but a dream I had a few days ago brought forth the image of the alchemical bath and seemed to speak to the magnitude of my transformation:  I am seated in a black office chair on rollers in a large auditorium with…

Dream of Turtle Populations at Night

Hi all, there has not been a lot of activity on this group recently and I don’t know how many folks are around, however I have a dream I’d love to get any feedback on.  This is from two nights ago—the product of a very jet lagged brain.  Here is the dream:  I am looking at a map of the world, traditional world map, flat.  Suddenly night falls over the map and the map becomes like a deep dark green-black.  I am situated off the map in a neutral, observer space.  As night moves over the map (and…

I feel like a fraud

I wonder if anyone else has the same struggles I do? I have OSA.  Try as I might, I simply cannot seem to remember any of my dreams.   It's the most frustrating thing -- not having dream recall.  As I wondered why, I began to research the answer to this dilemma. I discovered a study in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine which found that in a test group of 393 people, more than 70 percent who did not have sleep apnea were able to recall their dreams, but those with severe sleep aponea had a…
