Ed Koffenberger left a comment on Jung in the South
"So...after a LONG time away, I resurface and wonder who is still out there, esp. in the Carolinas and Virginia? Frankly, I took too great a chunk of real estate in my exuberance with the beginning of the DPA. Now hoping there are some still…"

"The actual phrase "depth psychology" about three times. The concepts and perceptions related to and introduced by depth psychology, most likely, 10+ times a week. Normally with people interested in dreams, synchronicity, religion, and philosophy.…"

  • ... thanks for the welcome, Ed... yes, i will jump into the Shamanism group...

    :-)

  • Thanks Ed ... not sure where the link to the South group is ... I'll explore ... my introduction to psychology was Jung in the first semester of seminary ... the image of
Sacred Psychology came in my first Sacred Passage in the form of a Medicine Wheel ... a vision quest program that has been most instrumental along the Way ... cf www.sacredpassage.com if interested ... I don't join many of these listservs due to precious time ... I was impressed with the work of the Depth Alliance and look forward to the sharing ...peacefully, Doug

  • Thanks for the welcome, Ed. I look forward to exploring and discovering what the Alliance has to offer.

  • I think we Jungian-minded attorney are few in number but may we be mighty in service to the collective consciousness!

  • Hi Ed,

Thanks for the email. All points well taken.

Regarding your curiosity of the Asian experience, I have no answers, just humor and openness. I showed some Chinese university students a Billy Idol video (Rebel Yell) which I thought they would enjoy. (Pretty tame by our standards.) Rather, a large number of them were horrified. Ha! That's Confucianism (the antithesis of Billy Idolism.)

India has some extreme examples of very personalized enlightenment processes (an aghori or someone following in the mahasiddha tradition, for example.) I think individuation is probably most similar to deity yoga and traditions like the mahavidya or mahasiddha tradition. These are traditions where one's personal "faults" are, more or less, the guiding flavors that determine the expression of one's enlightened nature.

I don't know if it would be appropriate to call these paths "individuation", per se. Maybe not.

And, in China, the closest approximation to individuation would mean accomplishing an inner process without disturbing the emotions of those around you. Conservativeness is key. As for individuation as it relates to East Asian "personal" identity, consider this:

    "Tell me about yourself."

"Well my family lives in Guandong. My father is a farmer. My mother is a . . ." . . . and so on.

If a person enjoys direct conversations, she should never come to China and play the "But what do YOU want?" game.

    All the best,

    Dave

  • Thank you, Ed. I'm still learning my way around the site, but I hope to be able to participate more fully soon.  Best Regards, Marshall

  • Ed--thanks for your comments as well. If you were to look at my LinkedIn profile you'd see I have been a visionary since I stated ouyt in law- and if you look at my bio in Phil Cousineau's "Soul Moments: Marvelous Stories of Synchronicity--Meaningful Coincidences from a Seemingly Random World" you'd see I almost ditched law and went to Pacifica... But you know what happens if you try to ignore a calling!

Glad to be here, feels like coming home.

  • I agree, Ed. I've often thought that, gods forbid, were I ever to be remanded to solitary confinement, I could survive if I had The Complete Works of Shakespeare and a deck of Tarot cards. I've also thought that if I were given free rein to train psychotherapy students and interns, I'd do it by incorporating a large ;pile of the great works of literature and a much smaller pile of psychology tomes.

BTW, Charlie Rose has started doing a series on Shakespeare. I saw the first program last week, and it was quite good. CR captures my interest less often these days, but this one was good. www.charlierose.com/view/content/11985

    Happy Day-of-Giving-Thanks to you, too,

    Hadley

  • Thanks for the location tip. Next May I'll have been an astrologer for 44 years. Had planned to be an English teacher and eventually evolve into being a Shakespearean scholar. My Guidance System obviously had other plans (though Shakespeare obviously was familiar with the mantic arts).

  • Thank you so much, Ed. I look forward to finding my way around the site. I can already imagine I'll find the proverbal embarrassment of riches while also working on a judicious management of time. How do I locate the Archetypal Astrology group?

    Your photos are stunning.

    Kind regards,
