Please share a little about yourself by way of introduction. What draws you to Depth Psychology and what are you looking for from this community?
Narrative psychology combined with social systems on the "outside" and Jungian understanding of the interior "systems" make a nice pairing. Currently working on soul-related theoretical research establishing that soul is a misnomer. A proper understanding begins with seeing that souling as process is a better beginning to understanding the workings within the Psyche.
Do you belong to any other online Psychology-related communities or orgs? If so, which?
Many, but most are Jungian based.

Ed,
Since I'm not on this website often I really don't know how to navigate it very well. I received two more e-mails from a right wing Republican group. They are so toxic in nature I don't want to spread the psychic contamination around, but thought that you could handle it and might be interesting to see where this dialogue is with the general collective. They remind me of postwar Nazi propaganda almost exactly! it's frightening. If you're interested let me know how I can e-mail these to you, they're not appropriate for public posting in my opinion.
Thanks
Les
Hi there, sorry for the late response! I haven't been on in a while... I'm in my first year at Pacifica... it's going by fast, but I love it. When did you attend Pacifica?
Also, do you know anyone in the south bay area? I'm somewhat new to the area and would love to connect with people.
Thanks!
Ed and Bonnie, thank you for the warm and informative welcome. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and making my way around the site. Blessings, Sloan
Hello Ed, thank you for your welcome. I'm currently on the Big Island so able to catch up with myself enough to celebrate my birthday. I'm in the process of getting clarity and focus for the next year and I'm happy to be part of this group. thank you! Aloha
Dear Ed, thank you very much for your message. I hope to share my interests experience in African literature and more with the alliance. Beth
Thank you, Ed. In many ways I would consider myself an artist but I have mostly been focused upon my teaching work and children these days- I am hoping to get back into art. I have worked in film in the past and since I have been helping others work on some video stories I am also hoping to regenerate my creative work again into some videos. I'd like to do some videos connected with various archetypes.
I already been in seminary twice. I went to Bangor Theological Seminary in Portland, ME. I am looking to go back a third time. For a long time I’ve had an interest in becoming a councilor/ teacher. I have a mentor who is a therapist by trade and recommended I go the theological route instead of the secular way because of all the bureaucratic hoop jumping. The two previous attempts can be described: I’ve been daunted by the cost and the job prospects/pay afterward. These considerations made dealing with the accepted scholastic pedantry unbearable. Plus I don’t enjoy church services. But.... I keep being brought back to this point.
I was brought up UU, my father is a UU minister. So I’ve ben instilled with syncretic approach to mythologies. I philosophically would align myself with any of the worlds mystic traditions. I’ve had the privilege of being part of an informal fellowship involved studying I Ching, with periodic seminars on weekly castings. We also shared a common library that had alot of Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, Erich Neumann, Edward Edinger, Teilard de Chardin, Marie-Louise von Franz, Hellmut Wilhelm, Allen Watts, and Arnold Toynbee, etc. This group was functioned as family in spirit and much like a12 step group by reinforcing temperance and practical wisdom.
I am really interested in your dissertation. I growing up I was repulsed by the Orthodoxy associated with Christian story. But this story is the story of the civilization I live in. Over the past 6 years there has been some tractor beam focusing me on trying to reconcile the Judeo-Christian tradition. This tractor beam was heralded in by Christian imagery showing up in my artwork.
Works that informed me about Christian symbolism included: ‘Jung on Christianity’ edited by Murrey Stein. ‘Answer to Job’, ‘Aion’ ‘Psychology and Alchemy’, The book by Stephen Hoeller: ‘The Gnostic Jung and the Seven Sermons of the Dead’ (had helpful commentary). Anything by Teilard de Chardin, Edward Endiger had a lovely interpretation of several of the psalms in ‘The Sacred Psyche’, also his ‘Archetype of the Apocalypse (Inner City Press). Meister Eckhart would be up that depth psychology alley as well. Joseph Campbell has a volume In his ‘Masks of God’ series on ‘Occidental Mythology’.
Some of the twelve step literature and Cognitive Behavior therapy has been helpful in grounding the ideas in the fore-mentioned in prosaic language.
I don’t have a circle of folks that I can connect with on this stuff. I’m hoping to meet some folks who share the same interest.
Best
Josh Cook
