"As the statues come down or are being debated; as the flags are being removed or changed. What kinds of responses have you observed in your areas? What arguments are being presented for the removal or retention of these symbols? What function does a…"

Ed Koffenberger left a comment on Jung in the South
"So...after a LONG time away, I resurface and wonder who is still out there, esp. in the Carolinas and Virginia? Frankly, I took too great a chunk of real estate in my exuberance with the beginning of the DPA. Now hoping there are some still…"

Ed Koffenberger replied to Bonnie Bright's discussion How pervasive or recognizable is Depth Psychology?-- How (and how often) do you share?
"The actual phrase "depth psychology" about three times. The concepts and perceptions related to and introduced by depth psychology, most likely, 10+ times a week. Normally with people interested in dreams, synchronicity, religion, and philosophy.…"

Ed Koffenberger left a comment on Jung in the South
"After a hiatus that included taking a new job, moving to a new state, and having, on the way, heart surgery, I am back and needing some mental stimulation! I'm in North Carolina now (New Bern) and looking for any groups that may be in the area,…"

Ed Koffenberger replied to Gerard Scott's discussion The collective unconscious
"Fun. As I understand it, the collect unconscious of humanity is drawn from the combined unconscious dynamics of humanity passed down from the earliest times. If experience is the key, then the alien experience would be alien (couldn't resist) to our…"

Ed Koffenberger replied to Gerard Scott's discussion The collective unconscious
"Absolutely. Even Jung postulated that archetypal images could change and new images added after long periods of acceptance by humanity."

Ed Koffenberger replied to Gerard Scott's discussion The collective unconscious
"Just occurred to me that false memory creation has been going on for generations, just not along neuroscientific lines. How many times has history been rewritten and taught in our schools to generations not old enough to have their own memories of…"

Ed Koffenberger replied to Gerard Scott's discussion The collective unconscious
"First, going back to the original question, in the context of the collective unconscious, is there such a thing as a false memory? Within the collective unconscious, no, for all human events are physical manifestations of the human condition. Within…"

Ed Koffenberger replied to Gerard Scott's discussion The collective unconscious
"The collective unconscious - so far as we can say anything about it at all  - appears to consist of mythological motifs or primordial images, for which reason the myths of all nations are its real exponents. In fact, the whole of mythology could be…"

Ed Koffenberger replied to Bonnie Bright's discussion What a Shaman Sees in a Mental Hospital

  • I see I am not the only one slow to respond to a comment, ie, your heart-felt welcome to the online Depth community. A very belated thank you! I don't get online very often. I see you like Brene Brown I discovered her about a year ago at the Global Leadership Summit Simulcast. What she writes about and shares about vulnerability being a strength is something I wish I had learned decades ago. It sure takes a lot of stress out of life and is improving my relationships. I am not familiar with the Ulanovs, but I do love watching God at work in my clients, having a front row seat, especially when He totally re-images a traumatic memory, and they see Jesus, and often someone else, overcome and release them-- simply amazing! What a privilege.

  • Ed - you had commented back in 2012 about enjoying some of the music on my website, even to the extent of it being a creative stimulus perhaps to some of your writings. I wanted to bring your attention to my Higgs Boson concert late in 2012, which wasn't posted until 2013. Here's a link to the video of The Higgs Boson, Part One. http://vimeo.com/56294695 From there you can also find Part Two, which is my preferred part of the concert, but I don't really know which half is better.

  • Hi Ed, Thanks for your comment and welcome back in 2012, for some reason I just received it. At this point I imagine you have completed your myth degree. Yes?

  • Hello Ed!

Thank you for your warm welcome! It's nice to be involved in this community! To answer your question about Antioch's orientation: I just took a class called Counseling Theories and Approaches. We learned about several theories including Freudian, Jungian, Adlerian and Rogerian. We also covered concepts of Behaviorism, Cognitive-Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectal Behavior Therapy.

I don't feel as though we had a specific orientation that was pushed; we were introduced to several prevalent approaches. Our final paper was to select an orientation we felt best suited us, and research the theory more fully.

I have met several people who have attended Antioch 20+ years ago who have specialized in a Psychoanalytic approach as that was THE orientation being taught at the time. It's nice to have options, but my paper was on Depth Psychology ;)

  • Thank you for the warm welcome, Ed, and for taking the time to visit my website. I'm enjoying my exploration of all the Depth Psychology Alliance offers. What an amazing resource!

  • How do you like Pacifica? I am looking into their PhD in Depth with an emphasis in Community, Eco, and Liberation Psych!

  • Hello! Actually, I only recently discovered Jung's work. I spent two years in a Clinical Psychology PhD program and not a word was mentioned about depth work. I left as I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the program and now, at Antioch, we are reviewing much of Jung's work in various courses. I was thrilled to find an area that matches the way I conceptualize...life! It was really very inspiring and I am happy to have found this on-line community.

  • Thanks for the welcome Ed. I look forward to engaging in discussion with folks.

  • Thanks for the welcome Ed - I'm looking forward to gradually working my way into all that the site has to offer. I have a series of essays on Hermes and post modernity, creativity etc. in particular up at my website and at Scribd that I'll probably share once I work out the post function. Best wishes with the theatre piece you allude to - Jungian and Transpersonal modalities, I feel are very positive toward creative expression and I look forward also to encountering that exchange between psychology and creativity via this site. Best regards, Ian
  • Thank you Ed, the welcome is apprectiated and when I have that little extra moment in time, I will explore more and dive in. It is already refreshing to connect with some old colleagues and to be entering a world that has been here waiting for me. Like many here, I have varied interest besides over 35 years of psychotherapy practice with a Jungian orientation, the use of the expressive arts, Authentic Movement and Archetypal influences.
Just getting my profile picture set up is my next move and then I will in fact introduce myself further. Looking forward to ride. I have also been deep into the study of the 'Red Book' with the guidance of Sam Kimbles, Phd. past president of SF Jung Institute, and I never tire of the journey. Best, Lizbeth
